The number of water-fowls in Europe has been declining due to the gradual destruction of their biotop. They still are abundant. When you are watching a flock of birds cloud over the sky for half an hour you can imagine how the hunter’s heart starts beating with joy. The following sorts of wild ducks can be shot in Hungary: mallard (Anas p. platyrhyncha), common goldeneye (Bucephala Clangula), common teal (Anas crecca). And two sorts of wild goose can be shot: bean goose (Anser Fabalis), and white-fronted goose (Anser albifrons). The other sorts are not game birds any longer, those are protected. Wild ducks are bagged exclusively in August during their flight, and later at the driven shoot. Going wild duck shooting on the stubble-field can be alluring and it holds out promises of success. Though you can see wild ducks everywhere, first and foremost they have an inclination for settling down along rivers and lakes with huge reedy areas. Hunters need fog or bad weather and strong wind to shoot wild geese so as the game birds will fly low, or else pellets will not reach them. The best hunting grounds are located on the Hungarian Plain.
